or just go to www.realitaly.com phillyflyer59 Hi,
I,m hoping someone can help me. My mother's maiden name is Sanguinetti. Her family is from Jamaica. However, about 20 or 30 years ago, her uncle was contacted by the Italian government about a suppossed "castle" in Italy that they traced to him. He had no interest in it because I guess there was a lot of back-taxes owing on it. Since he passed away nobody can remember where the castle is. I believe the family name originates from Northern Italy. Can anybody help me find out more information. Thanks!Peter Hi,
sorry too take awhile to get to you.
having a look ... most Sanguinetti names at the moment seem to be centered around Genova, Ligura. Which is north-west Italy.Peter The name Sanguinetti is pretty world wide.
As mentioned, it does crop up, mainly to the south, of Genova.
Nearly all the places mentioned are very small, boasting only a handful of houses. The two differences are;
Sassari ... which is on Sardina
and
Chiavari, which is on the coast oppostite.
At the first the castle has long been cleared away, and was owned by the Aarongese dynasty.
There is a ruined castle at Chiavari though.
But what I found interesting on;
www.realitaly.com/chiavari/sight. html
and put chiavari in.
Many Italains left here for Sth. America. This explains their spread over that side of the world. But many returned to Chiavari, building palaces (in the Italian sense of the word) casaforte (stronghouses), etc. With their increase in wealth. It would seem more likely that this is the area to look in.
Chiavari is also a port, famous for its shipbuilding etc.
I, of course, could be barking up the wrong tree ! But it sounds good stuff to look into.
